NO LONGER
DRIFTING
A COLLECTION
OF SHORT STORIES
In everyone's life, whether gradual or forced by outside circumstances, change is inevitable. The characters in these stories face crucial problems and lose all sense of direction.
Change appears in the sinister form of an enemy in The Blameless. In The Angel of Darkness, it surfaces as the deadly inner-struggle of a young divorcee contemplating suicide.
Whatever
the case, each person sets out on some new, sometimes frightening, course--no longer
drifting.
"Grief, a tragic flaw,
failure to see the truth, immobilizes the characters in these stories that
Vickie Britton and Loretta Jackson tell with such heart and vividness.
Each presents an obstacle that makes progress impossible.
The challenge
can be caused by loss, like in The Sea God or it can be simply a failure
to change and grow, like in Adrift. Whatever the problem, no easy
answer exists and it looms threatening and impassable. Each character is
forced to take some action or face the results of avoidance: unhappiness, loss
of inner peace, or even of life itself.
I
immediately became a party to every struggle, many that every person sooner or
later must face. I found myself cheering the lead character on
and learning something in the process."
